tip-o-day
The FREE dog is on antibiotics. Evidently she has some parasite or bacteria or some such thing caused by a deer tick.
We have long used the clever method of wrapping her pills in something tasty. I prefer cheese, but the Doxycycline she is on calls for no dairy. So we have been using soft cookies, bread or pasta. Every so often tho, the FREE dog will get a taste of the pill concealed inside and spit out the whole mouthful.
To keep this from happening I hold another treat in my hand, so she can clearly see it as she eats the first piece. This causes her to gulp it down quickly so that she is ready for more.

My late sweet Red was extraordinarily good at extracting pill from treat. This tip would have helped. Biscuit is too stupid to worry about it. Scout (the person, not the dog) loves feeding her weird stuff to see if she'll eat it. For the record, dogs do NOT like arugula and therefore do not view it as a treat.
we have one that is on a 2 pill a day dose for seizures...she takes them in bread (thankfully) without thinking....have to keep this in mind if that good fortune ever fails...hope free dog is well soon!
Towards the end, our old dogs were on to every trick we could think of. Wish we'd thought of that one.
Take care of FREE dog.
Your tip is pure genius! I'll have to remember that the next time Molly needs meds.
We had to give our old dog pills coated with lots peanut butter. If they were big horse pills she'd get it in tiny peanut butter sandwich.
Great idea. I usually call one of the other dogs and act like I'm gonna feed it to them. But, your way sounds less traumatic.
that is probably the most clever dog fooling trick i've heard of!
Hope Free Dog is doing well. We had a very sick fur baby in the past who was taking many pills. We used "pill pockets". You can get them from several places online. Just Google pill pockets. They are really great little
"gobs of playdough-like stuff" that are chicken or beef flavored. Put a pill in the middle, close it up, and the pill and the treat disappear faster than you can blink.
I hope we don't need this tip any time soon. Ticks are evil.
Hope FREE dog is feeling better soon!
