it does what!?

That's what I said to my mother the other night when she recommended a neti pot for my current sinus stuffiness. I had never heard of one... because yes, I do live under a rock and am very happy there, thank you very much.

So she described to me what it would do. The whole in one side out the other concept.
It completely fascintated me.
So of course - I ran right out and got one.

wow.

Have you ever used one of these things.
Freaky...
and mildly addictive.

I don't use the neti pot per se, but the technique actually works. I went to a doctor a couple of years ago thinking I had a cold, she said it was allergies and to just rinse out my sinuses. I was like, seriously, that's all you've got for me. Well, it worked. I've had to do it here lately for allergies again.

Everyone that uses one of those says the same thing.

Hey have you ever stuck a slice of lemon under your armpit? You can taste the lemon after a few minutes..

LOL@ sage Now I need to try that!

Not sure I could handle a neti pot. I'm afraid of that drowning feeling.

I had the exact opposite reaction to the neti pot when it was suggested to me a couple of years ago.

I've managed not to have a sinus infection in the ~5 years I've had a neti type pot (Costco here has had a neti type kit for $12). Feels awful, makes me sneeze sometimes, makes me feel like my brains are ooozing out of my head while doing it, but...no sinus or ear infections...gotta say it's a good trade-off

Neti pot, I was extremely sceptical at first, but I use it whenever I have a cold and it always works wonders.

Hi Weese! I'm a regular reader but too shy to comment - until now.

I was intrigued by this neti pot thing because here in north east England a neti (netty) is a toilet/public convenience.

Thank God for Google!

Apparently I've been living under the same rock.

What is it?

Ahh yes, been using the little blue pot on & off since last fall's sinus thingy.

And now I need to go buy a lemon. Thanks, sageweb - will juice work?!

Hi, Weese. Saw your name on Treppenwitz, and here I am. Re Neti pots- I use it once or twice a week, love it, but recently read a study that claims that daily use actually increases the incidence of sinus infection. Apparently there's a happy mean where excessive accumulation is washed away, but the necessary layer of protective film remains intact. I haven't checked whether the study's online, but you might find it under news.
