presbyopiating

I am over 40. In fact, I am hanging on to the very threads of 40.
This means I need glasses.
Fact.
No getting around it.

I am perfectly ok with this.
I recently upgraded from the dollar store readers to proper prescription bifocals.
These have changed my life. I love being able to see... all the time. I love not having to get frustrated at the blurriness and then go pawing around for spectacles on the table, on my head, or on a string.

Being new to wearing glasses full time - I have found that there is a period of adjustment.
For example, I knew I was getting used to them when I got in the shower with them still on. I took this as a good sign.

I am also realizing, as my vision slips further into its 'opia, that it might be best to put them on a little earlier in the morning.
This way - I won't show up to work wearing clothes with tears or stains on them. I might also have a better chance at buttoning correctly.

you know... I'm 37 (38 in 2 months) and for the past 6 months or so, I know my vision is deteriorating.

I am straining just a little bit more... and I know it's coming.

In fact I've already started perusing the reading classes at the local pharmacies... just to get an idea of what will be "me".

Hellooooooooooo almost 40. Fuck you former 20-20 vision. I shoulda got the money back gurantee!

i have worn glasses since i was 14 so this is not a biggie for me. at least i can see clearly. now, whne i need bifocals, i might kick and scream a little teeny bit. congrats on the new specs*

I put off the bifocals for as long as I could. But, when it became too much of a strain to do the daily crossword puzzle, my decision was made for me. Some things are worth it!

My glasses are the first thing on in the morning and the last thing off at night. This does nothing for my buttoning abilities...

ditto Maxine's statement---there is no guarantee that proper glasses application will assist in proper clothes application.

I to have had to wear glasses for years---but because I had 20/10 vision. I could read a menu from 3 blocks away and see the ball coming out of a pitcher's hand before she wound up.

This year, however, I noticed a big decline and while I'm not 40 anymore...I'm a lot closer than you are. This year, the eye doc said 20/25...wtf? I told her "put it back, put it back, I am BLIND I TELL YOU, BLIND!". She claims that by law, she cannot write a scrip for glasses that give me even 20/15. Then to add insult to injury, she said "Bifocals might help you read a little better!". OFMG!

I compromised...one single vision pair of glasses and one pair of bifocal...the single vision so I don't get seasick walking around...the bifocal so I can read email on my blackberry! oy!

this is really stupid:...
Even now years later - I wake up, plod downstairs & THEN I realize oh shit. I CAN'T FEFIN' SEE!
Then I have to trudge back upstairs to get my glasses. I never remember I need spectacles when I wake up.

I have transitional lenses and they are okay, but I have worn specs since 14 so it didn't take that long to get used to.
