Words

A picture is worth a thousand words.
Yet when I am in the elevator I only long for two.

Would they PLEASE just write words OPEN and CLOSE next to those ridiculous ‘universal’ symbols they use.

It cant’ just be me.

It happens all the time.
I get in the elevator and notice someone approaching just as the doors begin to close. I want to help. I reach out, finger poised, ready to save the day... and there I stall.

Staring at those stupid little graphics.
Completely helpless.
Not a clue.
The door closes.

I do the same thing. Actually, the words don't even always help me. Something about the time pressure, I just freeze. I'm glad I'm not the only one!

I just stick my arm in between the doors. It's much faster than trying to decipher those silly buttons!

Just happened to me today. The elevator door slammed shut on those poor people pushing that baby carriage.

Since the words aren't there, maybe a word association would help.

Ok, think of the 'open' button as a closed pussy that needs to be open.

The 'closed' button is an open pussy that needs to be closed because, fuckin' A, it's time for breakfast.

This is why you have a problem with the buttons - the 'open' button looks closed and the 'closed' button looks open. So you have to rethink them.

Hey...works for me.

Guess who

just stick your arm out and prevent the door from closing. it's a no-fail way of holding the door...literally :)

I agree. However, after many years in my building, I've memorized which is which, by identifying the open one is on the right.

LOL, it is not just you! I have the same dilemma all the time, do i just smile and shrug, or sacrifice body parts in the door?

I usually throw my body into the door opening. If I try to press the button, I usually press the wrong one.

I thought I was the only one who thought those were confusing. Glad to know I'm not alone.
Where I work there are two sets of buttons - one to the left of the door and one to the right of the door. The open and close buttons are in the same order on both panels so on the left the close door button is closest to the door, and on the right it's farthest from the door. So when I try to be kind and hold the door I occasionally close it in someone's face. Drives me crazy.

Lucky me, the elevators in my building are manual. That gate is another whole issue.
