No, really...it does.
If you drive alot, it can save you quite a bit actually.
Apparently, I am the only one who knows this... or cares.

Ferris: "That's correct - 55 is the optimal speed for gas savings... on any road."

I'm with Ferris.
Driving 55 on the interstate will get you flipped off, and run the fuck OVER.
Welcome to the Carter years.
LMAO! 55 on CT country roads sounds about right. 55 on the highway will get you killed.
55? Shoot, I let tractors pass me. I pulled over for a guy in a wheel chair the other day.
Sounds good, but Dallas Road Rage dictates much higher speeds.
I am really good about following all of the rules of the road...with the exception of the speed limit. I have a lead foot.
Syd..you're a pansy - I was on I-95 just today doing 55.(ok ok maybe closer 60).
Its fun.
If that is close to 80kph then you are probably right. That's why we have a country road and freeway speed of 110kph, a highway speed of 70kph, a school zone speed of 40kph and a suburb speed of 60kph. So you can see we are saving petrol like mad over here!
Oh, and I forgot, we are paying $1.50 per litre for it.
Funny you should mention this... I was reading an article on Life Hacker. Confirms your statement. Other gas saving tips include
1. using your cruise control (keeps the car at a consistent speed... using less gas than varying speeds by even a little)...
2. Keep as much space between you and the car in front of you as possible avoiding having to slow and start... slow and start...
3. Start slowly from a stop ... don't gun it out of the gate
people have reported gaining as much as 15 to 20 miles per gallon. With gas prices the way they are...can't hurt.
Uh, no.
